Understanding Leftover Liquid in Your Mounjaro Pen

When using a Mounjaro pen for the first time, it’s natural to have questions—especially if you notice liquid remaining in the pen after you've taken all your doses.
Let’s explore why this happens and what it means for your treatment.

How the Mounjaro Pen Works
Mounjaro is a multi-dose pre-filled pen containing Tirzepatide, used for type 2 diabetes management and weight loss. It is designed for subcutaneous injection (under the skin) and provides four doses per pen.

Why Is There Liquid Left in My Pen?
If you see liquid remaining in your pen after completing your doses, don’t worry—this is completely normal.
Here’s why:
:white_check_mark: Each Mounjaro pen contains 3ml of liquid.
:white_check_mark: Each dose is 0.6ml, meaning the pen delivers four doses in total.
:white_check_mark: The pen holds slightly more than 2.4ml to allow for priming before each dose.
After you’ve used all four doses, you may still see liquid in the pen. This is expected and does not mean your pen is faulty.

What Should You Do?
Once you’ve completed your four doses:
:small_blue_diamond: You won’t be able to dial another full dose, even if liquid remains.
:small_blue_diamond: The pen is now finished and should be safely discarded.
:small_blue_diamond: If you’re unsure whether your pen is working correctly, speak to one of our clinicians for guidance.

:small_blue_diamond: Log into your account and place a new consultation for the next dose.
